This is an AWESOME BOOK and SPEAKER!
If you cannot find compassion in your heart for Mrs. Smith after
reading her story, you will not be able to have compassion on your
child, your sister, or your mother, any of whom could easily
be staring at the steps of a prison door. It takes just one slip-up.
It's easy-not hard-to get there. The book points out that the
penal system does not actively pursue rehabilitation. After reading "TIME ON THE INSIDE: Behind
the Walls in a Maximum Security Women's Prison from an Insider's View," I
cried. I became depressed for a quick moment, then I decided to
do something constructive about it and bring it to the public's
attention, and that is when I began to write. And so I did my part. Now
it's up to the media to raise public awareness of this cancer that is
slowly destroying families. This
is a cry for help! Help, somebody-anybody-everybody-help! Prison
may be closer to your house and your family than you think.

Very GREAT TOPIC and INSPIRATIONAL PERSON
You don't hear much about women in prison as this is a subject
many stay away from. If you're in prison, doing crime or want to know
more about what happens within the California Penal System, this book
covers it. From the moment you get arrested, to going to jail and then
prison and what you do while in and coming out. It takes you right inside
as if you are really their. It also gives you some idea as to why women
AND youth are going into prison time after time and what the government
isn't doing to rehabilitate, but how they are exploiting inmates. I couldn't
put this book down and I read it twice. It is also a must have for teens
and young adults as it will give a clear understanding of how women AND
men should be leading their life. The author is a very eloquent, inspirational
and dynamic speaker as she ultimately states that your life will change
when you allow a higher power to lead you, when you help others who are
less fortunate than you are. I was also impressed at the authors' resources
in the back of the book and inspirational messages for us. She is definitely
on the right path with this book and her motivational speaking.

GREAT BOOK
This book is great for people that would like to read about
struggles and problems women go through in prison. It is also
great for women who need female empowerment in their lives
and why they should try to keep their lives on track. This
book helps women understand that if you are not loved or cared
about does not mean that you can’t achieve the greatness
that you would like to. So I recommend this book to young men,
women, children, teens, and also anybody who needs a word of
positivity. Great book.

Understand
I never knew that much about women in the system until a friend
let me read her book and i just wanted to cry. Mrs. Smith-Marshall has
seen a lot of things and I’m glad that she came out with a book
to tell the real story of what goes on. I've never seen anything like
this in book stores before. Thank you for opening my eyes on things.
Keep up the good work.

On the Inside
Unless you have actually experienced being behind bars, you do
not truly know nor understand the daily interactions of prison life.
This 'Insider's View' of a Maximum Security Women's Prison delves into
the life of author Donna Ann Smith-Marshall as she rehashes the almost
beastly way she was treated on the inside. What should have been rehabilitation
ended up being cruel-like punishment. Being a hardworking professional,
Mrs. Smith-Marshall managed to get herself in trouble and leave her young
children virtually motherless while she paid for her crime. Undergoing
a lengthy process, she was finally on the 'inside.' Being ridiculed with
embarrassing searches of her body and verbally abused by emotionless
guards, she realized that her life would never be the same. While watching
others go through emotion after emotion, she soon could not keep hers
in check and fell prey to the ideals and options of prison life. Admittingly
Mrs. Smith-Marshall understands that she must pay for her mistakes, she
wants us as readers to understand and stand up for women dealing with
life on the inside. Though I liked the concept of the book, it felt more
like a biography and not the novel that I was looking for.

What is a Book Review?
- A book review is a description and an evaluation of a book
that you have read.
- Book reviews are so helpful because they inform future readers
about books they may be interested in reading. Often, a book
review will influence other readers by telling them a little
bit about what the story is about, as well as if it is worth
reading or not!
- The most important thing to remember is that book reviews DO
NOT give away the ending! If it is a good book, the reader will
not want to spend time reading it if he/she already knows the
ending.
